Welcome to the Freshman Year Experience
IS 110--Explorations
Interdisciplinary Sciences, IS 110, is a course taken by all freshmen science majors. It has been developed and taught by faculty from many disciplines. It is theme-based and is designed to provide the students with
· an appreciation for how the science disciplines work collaboratively to solve problems
· the social implications of scientific research
· an understanding of the global context in which science is performed today
Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge from the course in a field setting. For the 2008-2009 academic year, the topic was climate change. The capstone for the course was a trip to Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park to study the impact of climate change on glaciers.
For the 2009-2010 academic year, the faculty chose to continue studying climate change.
